It is said that Typhoeus, the giant who fell in the battle between the gods and the Titans, lies under Ischia, chained by Zeus to Epomeo. When he rolls in agony, the whole island trembles, his tears become springs and his groans give rise to fumaroles. To this day, some places on Ischia are named after parts of the giant’s body: Testaccio is the fat head, Ciglio the eyebrow and Panza the belly.
